This system has a Bluray compatible author that can also burn up CDs and DVDs. You also get an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz CPU, 2GB Memory and a very large 250GB hard drive. Another model I'd consider is the HP Pavilion dv6675us. You will get an Apple Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz CPU, 4GB RAM and 250GB of hard drive space. The 4GB associated with RAM is a great feature which will come in handy if you ever of finance ultraportable laptop computer. These laptops give very good computing overall performance in a very small, compact package.

Apple Core 2 Duo

In this class, I think the Lenovo ThinkPad X61 is a great choice for students. It's slightly pricey (but not outrageously so) but it is one of the best performing laptops around. It weighs no more than 3 pounds and is hence an extremely transportable piece of hardware. You also get an Intel Primary 2 Duo Two.0GHz CPU, 2GB RAM as well as an ample 100GB hard drive. 

Lenovo ThinkPad X6

You do not get a built-in DVD writer though - that unit is exterior to the laptop. One other good choice is the New laptop Portege R500-S5001X. It weights 2.4 pounds and is less than an in . thick.
