What Are the Differences Between the Iphone 4 and the Iphone 3G?

There is no company great than Apple at setting new benchmarks in technology. It seems every creation isn’t just thrown together with one or two moderately important add-ons, but are genuinely important, thoughtful upgrades that, when taken together, make the newer models a wonderful achievement on its own. That the Iphone was originally revolutionary is well known, but the most recent version has so many innovations beyond its predecessor that it set an entirely new standard for the wonders of technology. Here are the differences.

The price is actually an extremely fair increase. There is a price jump of $100 every time the memory is doubled, so the 3G has 8gb’s for $100, the Iphone 4 has 16 gb’s for $200, and 32gb’s for $200. It’s as if the only thing that’s changed between the two models was the increased memory, which of course isn’t the case.

The screen of the new Iphone has twice the resolution, featuring what’s known as the “retina” display. In short, the pixels are indistinguishable from one another. Watching movies, reading or watching websites is a much better experience. Basically, the resolution is so good that it makes the screen feel bigger.
One of the most innovative features utilizes the sharper density, and it’s known as “facetime”. If you call another Iphone you can see each other as you’re talking. Steve Jobs has said before that he gets some of his ideas from Star Trek, and never before has this link been so easy to detect! You don’t have to use facetime for every call, but there are times when someone is far away and you miss them that it’s an extremely nice pleasure to see their face so clearly and with so little hassle. The Iphone’s camera improved to five from three megapixels, and there’s an LED flash that its predecessor didn’t possess. Facetime utilizes the new front camera, and this too is a clear, highly functioning camera with VGA resolution. The back’s video recording is done in HD, an improvement from VGA. It also benefits from the LED light. Ultimately, the camera and video recorder isn’t a gimmick that’s paired with a phone—they would be substantial pieces of equipment if they were separated from the phone apparatus. The fact that this has all been integrated so seamlessly in one device is the genius of Apple.

Other important improvements are in the dual-mic noise suppression technology that deadens background noise to make conversations clearer. In terms battery life, talking time has been improved to 7 from 5 hours (on the 3g), and to 14 from 12 (on the 2g). The audio playback has risen a third to 40 hours from 30.
All in all, the new Iphone has serious upgrades in power, memory, and extremely noteworthy features that were simply absent in the 3g. The previous Iphone was cool, but the latest gadget on the block sets a benchmark so high it’s hard to imagine what how it can get any better!
